Ramadoss' revenge: AIIMS chief Venugopal sacked

Do we have a government which is democratic or is it a dictatorship which we have ?

New Delhi:The director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr P Venugopal, was dismissed by the Government on Wednesday. As a result of which, the AIIMS docs have gone on strike.
Venugopal was ousted from his post on charges of violating the code of conduct after AIIMS' governing body meeting chaired by Union Health Minister A Ramadoss passed a resolution to this effect.

Dont think its bad treatment. After all Dr Venugopal has led this institution into a veritable cesspool, where doctors are more interested in politics than saving lives and doing cutting edge research.
The great doctor has earned enough encomiums in return of the efforts he made and did not made at AIIMS.
The manner in which AIIMS doctors behaved during the quota controversy, it is apt that doctor Venugopal should go as he failed to lead the great institution
well government said that they wont take any action but now they are showing their true color.
show me single strike in last 2 years where strikers were punished or their salaries have been deducted and i will show you lier..
mineguruji,
Do you really know about Dr Venugopal or are you just mudslinging because he is not from OBC/SC/ST ?
It seems that you are doing the name maligning just because he belongs to another caste than yours.
So, tell me - how does having reservations remove the caste basis - because people like you seem to revel in it.
this incident exposes the real politics of UPA govt...they are fit for nothing, except doing cheap politics for their own self....how disgusting it might be to Dr.venugopal, who is one of the best doctors in india, and did more than 50,000 cardiac operations in AIIMS,and 1st to do heart transplantation in india.for his service ,was given padhmabhushan.now mr.ramdoss says he ll give 3 months salary also.....what a pity....dr.venugopal could have earned crores with his knowledge in private sector.....its really a black day for medical profession and is also for the common people who thinks to develop and work for the country
i think we should not respond to this mineguruji,....he knows nothing and speaks everything...its waste of time to convince or explain to such people who fix their opinion prior to discussions, never want to knoe whats the truth
Dear Guruji,
Doctors are supposed to be life saver. The current goverment is doing nothing by killing our democracy and doctors are doing their job "To save the life of our democracy". Caste-politics se upar uth kar sochiye. Jo 100 saal pehle sach tha aaj sach nahin hain.
Lekin shayad aapko nahin samajh mein aayega "Bhains ke aage been bajane ka koi faayda nahin hota".
this is d true representation of yfe..we have castist like mineguruji and true equality seekers like shreyas,vibhu,mohit.....anyone still have doubts about yfe?
All of you people are true equality seekers, and all of you are from upper caste and perhaps most of you also don the doctors mantle.
Well, today morning two people died becaus of doctors strike.
Is Dr Venugopal more important than saving a human life.
Yes, doctors save life but they do not do it for free.
All these doctors are paid handsome salaries from taxpayers money.
The doctors are no heavens angels doing free service to humanity, they charge money for doing their job and that is diagnosing a disease and prescribing a medicine.
Well a majority of Indian doctors are on the rolls of big pharmaceutical companies and feel no pangs in taking gifts, samples, money, cars, foreign jaunts in return for prescribing drugs and tests that may be of no use to patients.
Perhaps, this profession needs to be deglamourized and doctors made aware that they are not above the society.
Although, i was a bit harsh but i dont think i was a bit more casteist than you guys.
PS: I wish Dr Gopal had decided to go abraod, so he would have been saved from this mess.
Perhaps, so would have been AIIMS.
It is a big mistake to highlight the news of Ramadoss vs. Dr. Venugopal on YFE Hyderbad website. YFE Hyderabad is set up to bring EQUALITY without sacrifcing MERTI.
It is not setup to save Dr. Venugopal's job.
Ramadoss my be a vote-bank politician, but he is the current President of AIIMS by law. He is the boss of Dr. Venugopal. If Dr. Venugopal does not like his boss or the current Govt. policies, he can resign the AIIMS directorship and go to another institution where he is welcome. Nobody, even Ramadoss can take away his expertise as a first class surgeon. He can continue to help people in another medical institution.
Dr. Venugopal is a great doctor, but he failed as an adminstrator of a premier institution. He instigated his own employees (the junior docs) to go on strike. And these same meritoriuous docs are going on strike once again for his sake, without regard to their own oath of service, and against the rules. Dr. Venugopal does not persuade these docs to call off this illegal strike.
Dr. Venugopal and junior docs are meritorious, but acting irresponsibly. They have no sense of COMMON GOOD. It is clear that MERIT alone does not guarantee social responsibility.
Even if Ramadoss is a casteist idiot, Dr. Venugopal's behaviour in this episode does not bring the best of him. Dr. Venugopal let the issues go out of his control into the street. He should have settled them amicably within the boarders of AIIMS without the AIIMS patients ever knwowing are getting affected adversely by his disputes with the Govt.
Commong good is more important than any one man's ego.
Anonymous, there are few things
1. YFE came into existance because doctors went on strike against proposed reservation which was against interest of the country. You might have gone through current Charter of Demands
2. As a Director Ramodass was responsible for not taking immediate action. He should have arranged doctors from defence so that situation don't get worse.
3. Court had said that no action will be taken against striking doctors.
3. It is right of every individual to go on strike.
4. His removal is not based on his support to striking students but his comments against govt for trying to snatch AIIMS autonomy. Which I think is against right of speech.
Ramodass as a director of AIIMS should have proposed action against policemen involved in lathi charge against doctors of AIIMS. I think he is more responsible in getting the condition out of hand.
Venugopal's support to doctors make sense since govt behavior was autocratic and he had responsibiltiy towards AIIMS doctors
Do you think the junior doctors gave a strike notice and enough time for the Health Minister to bring doctors from the defence department?
Have the courage to say that these AIIMS junior doctors are wrong when they go on lightnening strike, voilating all norms and rules. The strike is not only illegal, it is immoral. They are concerned about their egos and not common good.
Shame on you to support such irresponsible behavior of these junior doctors.
ananymous am i seeing an enlightened side of a person whom i called upper caste chauvinistic pig.
I will make amends and call you just upper caste intellectual henceforth.
Atleast you understand the pain of the people, who need doctors help.
Students to discuss future action in anti-quota stir
Kanpur, July 6. (PTI): Students of technical and other educational institutions, protesting against the proposed OBC quotas, will meet in Hyderabad on July 8 to discuss their `future course of action'.
Earlier, the students of medical and technical institutes met at IIT Kanpur and launched a 'one sign one coin' plan, by which they would collect money and signatures to be sent to President A P J Abdul Kalam on July 15.
The IIT students, protesting against the reservations, had plans to garner support from political parties before the Parliament deliberated on the issue, their spokesman Omendra said.
The students also condemned the removal of Dr Venugopal from the post of AIIMS director.
please read this article about dr.venugopla, ull understand what his capabilities are:
http://www.indianexpress.com/story/7967.html
mr guruji, dont malinger dr.venugoplas name, u dont deserve to do that.....
what payscale is govt giving him....mere thousands...
its no where in reach of his stature.
he is the best cardiac surgeon in india, and we as doctors consider him as the symbol of cardiac operations.....he trained thousands of cardiac surgeons in india....

ALL ARE SHIT
Hey Doc, dont be so upset. I know that Venugopal is a great doctor, but i dont think he is a great man comparable to Gandhi or someone like that.
Gopal made his choice, when he stayed at AIIMS. He did it because he knew that the kind of exposure and opportunity he will have at AIIMS, would be hundred times more than a US hospital
I hope you know about the case of a very famous Indian cardiac surgeon in Australia, asikh perhaps, who was asked to pack his bags and leave for India. A TV channel did the story.
The government may have been a little harsh to him, but that the way India works. Either you are in the bosom of your favourite politician or in his dustbin, depending on which way the wave is.
Dont get upset, i understand you people, take care.
Hey Anonymous,
I read the Indian Express story about Venugopal, it was good but reaked of bias.
This way this newspaper is destroying the case of this doctor as well as upper caste people.
It is unprofessional manner to report, you need to be balanced mate in praise as well as in criticism.
A more relevant article for this group to read is:

This article by a Professor at IIT/Delhi describes how the US universities deal with merit, affirmative action and diversity in class room.
While learning about heart surgeons, affirmative action, Merit and equal opportunities, we should all know the eminent heart surgeon, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty of Narayana Hrudaylaya, famous heart surgery hospital in Pakistan and other countries.

I read Dr Shetty's interview also and he has given a solid riposte to Shekhar Gupta.
He simply said, increase the seats.

Ghetto in medical hostel
- Quota students in AIIMS allege being driven into a corner
CHARU SUDAN KASTURI, July 5, 2006, New Delhi.
http://www.telegraphindia.com/1060705/asp/frontpage/story_6439173.asp
(‘F*** off from this wing’, says a warning scribbled on the hostel door of
an AIIMS student from a weaker section).
PS:The Photograph which is carried in the Telegraph is not pasted here. You
can click on the link given above and see it.
New Delhi, July 4: Parts of All India Institute of Medical Sciences hostels
are turning into SC/ST ghettos. Reserved category students said they were being
“hunted out of the remaining rooms” by upper-caste students and driven to two
floors of the hostels.
An engraved message on the door of Room No. 49 (Hostel 1) bears testimony to
their concern. The inscription, spiced with abusive language, asks the room’s
occupant Umakant — a scheduled caste student — to “get out of this (hostel)
wing”.
With almost half the reserved category students since seeking reallocation of
their rooms, the message seems to have worked.
The top floors of Hostel No. 4 and 5 of the country’s premier medical school
have 32 rooms in all, of which 27 are occupied by SC/ST students. Of the 250
students at the institute, 55 are SC/ST.
Hostel records show that 22 of the students currently in the “ghetto” moved
there only in the wake of the surcharged atmosphere of the anti-reservation
agitation that started with the human resource development ministry unveiling
plans for a quota for the Other Backward Classes.
“Many more want to shift there but cannot because there aren’t enough rooms
for everyone,” said a student.
AIIMS authorities said they would take “necessary action”.
Sub-dean Dr Sunil Chumber said he had himself faced discrimination during his
college years. “My room was broken into, and things destroyed, because I came
from a reserved category,” he said.
The SC/ST students said they were scared of the consequences of their
identities becoming known for speaking out against discrimination.
A senior resident doctor, who belongs to the scheduled castes, said: “We are
so scared here because the director (P. Venugopal) himself is supporting them
(the anti-quota agitators). We have nowhere to go to complain.”
Resident Doctors’ Association president Dr Vinod Patro, however, said there
was “no discrimination on the AIIMS campus”. “It is a figment of their
imagination,” Patro, who has been leading the anti-reservation agitation at
AIIMS, said.
Some SC/ST students alleged that to keep them from revealing the
discrimination, they were often “failed in examinations”, which acted as a
threat.
“Every year on an average five of the 11 reserved category students are held
back,” a resident doctor said, citing his own case, where he was one of those
failed in the first year.
AIIMS rules say a student who fails twice over the five years of study cannot
pursue his or her post-graduation.
The students said that for fear of their careers being destroyed they did not
want to “get into the bad books of the authorities”.
“The students have no choice but to bear this humiliation quietly and pass out
in five years,” said Dr Vikas Bajpai of the Medicos’ Forum for Equal
Opportunity, a pro-reservation group.
A meeting of the apex decision-making body of AIIMS is scheduled tomorrow in
which the ouster of Venugopal could figure. Union health minister Anmbumani
Ramadoss, who wants him to go, will come face to face with the director for the
first time since the stand-off over the anti-quota agitation.
What can i say for people like this "guruji" fellow when people in US protest guys like him say what do u guys care about india(this i wont waste space here clarifying). And when it comes to someone like Dr. Venugopal who made a conscious decision to stay in India these guys say that he stayed for his own selfish interests(As if people like Anbumani ramadoss are selfless angels...selfish ...my foot). And if you are so selfless then what do u need the reservations for? and even if reservations are there why should they be for people like you who have access to everything(which is clear by the fact that you can post ur nonsensical blabber on the web) ... why should the reservation not be for someone who doesnt even have enough to afford two square meals... why should it be not based on economic criteria.
I guess we should take a firm stand on allowing people like this "mineguruji". Block him from posting, lets not allow such people to create anymore confusion arent our politicians already doing that ? and that too at a time when it seemed like that the future of this nation was not so bleak afterall.
This guy already has been warned about not trying to preach his agenda of hatred on the YFE chicago blog and now i see him doing the same thing here.So block him and save ur blog from deterioating.
Yes, YFEchicago says right. he lives in America which is under the influence of conservatives, who love the rich and powerful people. They dont want to listen to the other voice, like Bush has been trying to shutup Newyork Times. Chicago seems have caught this jewish virus and doesnt want to listen to any one.
Truth is bitter and who wants to listen to it.
Aint i right, at least here.

CWC Hyderabad : 8th - 9th July
The CWC Meeting is being held in Hyderabad on the 8th- 9th of July. The meetings are underway and CWC members of 8 states have attended the meeting and the other CWC members are taking part in discussions by teleconference.
Q. What is the CWC?
CWC is the Core Working Committe of the Youth for Equality organization. It consists of 16 members representing one state each.
Q. Why is the CWC happening in Hyderabad ?
The original Plan was to have the meeting in Mumbai. But due to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai, and a similar weather forcast for the week, it was no longer feasible to have it there. Hyderabad was suggested as the alternative destination, and the YFE hyderabad group has taken up the responsibility of organizing it.
MODERATOR(Y4E-HYD) SHOULD HAVE POSTED IT ON THE WEB.
