23 July : Human chain and candle walk at Necklace Road
Dear Friends,
As you may be aware Monsoon Session of Parliament is about to being on 24th July. We believe this is going to be one of the most important session in the history of independent India.
Government will bring the bill to introduce reservation in the institutes of higher learning and excellence. What do we do? Sit and Gossip? No.
Lets tell them that you are acting in the best interest of your party not entire nation. Divide and Rule will not work this time. Lets expose their hidden motives.
As we have done before, lets protest. In democracy and civilised society that's the best way to register our unhappiness. 16 years back government used the same weapon of wait and watch.
They succeeded last time. And we have reservations. Shall we learn from our own history? We shall not make the same mistake again.
Lets also use this occassion to tell those terrorists who have bombed trains in mumbai that youth of India is united. Lets pay homage to our brotherns who died in that attack.
Join us...
Fight we must...
Because generations to come will ask what we did so that India can become a better society...
History will not absolve you for abdicating your duty... thus fight we must... May we win may not.
regards,
YFE HYDERABAD

Those who care about facts on reservation:
- Mandal commission did its study in 1978-79 today is 2006 (27 years later!)
- Research Planning Team of sociologists met only once in Delhi from June 12th to 14th, 1979 to draw up a plan of studies and researches which should be undertaken by Backward Classes Commission for determining, in a scientific and objective manner the criteria for defining socially and educationally backward classes.
- A Panel of Experts led by Prof.M.N. Srinivas, met in Delhi from July 16 to 20th,1979, i.e. for five days, and, a heard detailed deliberations, prepared a complete design of the survey along with a set of schedules, dummy tables, instructions, etc." So, these two Groups in a sense laid down, what the Commission could do. Now, what did the Commission actually do with it, because neither of these teams was constituted after this? This means no specialist, no sociologist was involved with this report, apart from those eight days.
- Cost Indexing data used in this report is of 1891, 1931 Census data was collected and analysed with a view to getting a frame for the linkage of traditional occupations by caste. Can we really interpolate form 1891 and1931, to 1990; or does something better needs to be done? (115 and 75 year old data !)
- Mandal says in his report "Only one or two States, of them furnished the necessary details. Further, several States did not choose to respond even to some simple and straight-forward questions on important policy issues"
- Mandal says in his report "the views of every individual group and association were conditioned by their own class interests and the question of giving concessions to OBCs was surcharged with emotion". That means, the input that he has got from individuals and associations has been very biased by the people who presented them. He then goes on to say: "It was but natural that most of the respondents appearing before the Commission belonged to the OBC." That means, the inputs that he has got are not reliable as a cross section of society.
- Only 810 villages out of over 5 lakh villages were surveyed as a sample. "Experts panel had recommended "one per cent purposive sample of villages at the district level to be able to identify a vast majority of backward classes
- Mandal himself said in his report "In the end, it may be emphasized that the survey has no pretensions to being a piece of academic research. It has been conducted by the administrative machinery of the Government... All these factors obviously militate against the requirements of a technically sophisticated and academically satisfying operation." He himself has said that this operations is not scientific, is not technically sophisticated and it is not even academically satisfying.
- One of the problems was that when the Commission itself wanted to go to the villages and see the realities, while the survey covered 810 villages, the Commission itself only visited 37 villages out of 500000 villages in india
- Only 28 per cent of the respondents favoured caste as the sole criterion. 78 percent said that caste can be one of the criteria, but not the sole criterion. So, most of the respondents to mandal commission who were 0BCs.have said that they do not want caste as the single definer
- National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) puts OBC population at 32 per cent, the National Family and Health Survey at 29.8 per cent
What Rajiv Gandhi Said:
Do we want all these benefits to be cornered and taken away by land-holders and land lords? Why do we not exclude the people with a certain member of properties from such benefits? Do we want these benefits to go to high senior Government officers who already have got that privilege?
What objection can there be to what I am saying? In fact, every objection that I am hearing is only confirming my fear that this Government is aiming these benefits
at a particularly privileged group and not looking at the really poor.

administrator,
i think u should send the details in emails, as many dont check the site.its a gud option to send directly....
and as the colleges are getting started, it would be better if we choose a representive(student) from each college and spread our message...
excellent guys.keep it up.one more suggestion:friends if we do rallys n stuff in hitech city or indira park, no one will notice us...becuase everyday one dharna takes place at indira park....see what i m telling u is, lets do rastha rook at chikadipally or ameerpet ,..yah..police may not give permession...but we can gather atleast 50 people with banners...and do rastha rook without plocie permission and inform media..then police will take us to police station ,...its a sensation(afterall cant we go to police station once for the sake of our country..i m from usa and i particpated in y4e rally in sanfransicso..and i m not spoilling y4 e name.ok.) and media will definately cover us...and we ll get lot of coverage and sympathy from common man and youth froem all parts of state...then we can do the protest in class way.....
remember guys we are lucky to get freedom from britishers in gandhis style in 1947.but now we will not get anything if do in his style(not even media coverage...24x7 channels dont have have time to show our protest)...as we are not fighting against britishers but our own made politicians, who are brutal than britishers...so we need to take inspiration from SUBASH CHANDRA BOSE.his style works now...dont think i m too radical...but we should combine both the ways....onlythen we can achieve..

yes .i completely agree with y4e usa.
in support of my view, i can site the example of our riseing i.e.,YOUTH4EQUALITY-DELHI.
our organistion y4e in delhi got the huge support and publicity not just because they were on hunger strike, but by the way there handled by the police and govt.to supress their moment by doing laticharge and by using force.only after laticharge they garned the publicty in all the channels and it spread to all parts of the country within no time and gained sympathy by fellow youth and started supporting them.
yah, he is right govt always thinks about the mass people and not class people.so, if we can spread the message to mass and do mass protests ,only then we can achieve something.yah.it should be little radical, like the way our Y4E started their protest.....
so, lets do rastha rook in main junctions even if the police dont give us permission.nothing will happen to us, even if we are arrested ,because they will realise us immediately...
why did TDP and CPIM organised their rally in rtc-x roads........
1. YFE is fighting to bring equal opportunity to every single person. Equal opportunity means easy access to good quality education.
2. Current bill is to attract votes because of following reasons:
a) Since in higher studies all over india 23.5% OBCs already gets selected without reservation.
b) Financially backwards don't get same opportunity as the creamy layer OBCs get better quality education.
c) 3.5% OBC reservation will be used by creamy layer
d) Govt is now planning to accomodate muslims in the 27% bracket. This means no reservation.
3. YFE supports making education as fundamental right of every citizen.
4. YFE is against divisive politics
5. YFE stands for review of outcome of current reservation system.
6. YFE stands against categorising people as backwards.
7. YFE stands against reservation in private sector because of following reason
a) This will effect market sentiments and companies may walk-out of market
b) This is boom time. There are already more jobs than the quality people available.
c) Give education and produce more quality people. There are no lack of jobs.
8. Govt is wasting 12000 Crore rupees in increasing seats. This amount can be used to open 50 thousand good quality schools and colleges.
9. Institutions severely lack infrastructure. Govt should have increased pay package of teachers to attract good quality teachers.
Emails have already been sent out. This post was put up after the emails went out and contains the contents of the email.
gud work moderator.keep it up.
Do whatever you like, reservations are here to stay.
Congrataulations, however, for the fact that govt has now decided to give quota to upper castes also on the basis of economic status.
