4th June : Anti Reservation Protest at Indira Park

Q.Why the protest?
A. We want to tell the government that we are not sitting idle and tolerating whatever is enforced on us.We are not slaves and we have a right to chose and right to protest against what we feel is wrong. We shall do whatever it takes to make India a great country , but great nations are not build on compartmentalised society. RESERVATION IS THE PROBLEM NOT THE SOLUTION. We need to make the government realise that they just can't dictate the terms because they are in a seat of power , we have the freedom of speech and we shall voice our opinion.

OUR DEMAND : COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF EXISTING RESERVATION SYSTEM BY COMMISSION CONSISTING OF SITTING SUPREME COURT JUDGES

Date: 4th JUNE 2006
Time: 9 AM onwards
Venue: Indira park, Lower Tankbund.

Each one of you must ask the following questions before you go on Protest:

(1)Why are so vocally concerned about Equality and Injustice now? Did you not notice that inequality before? You are protesting now because you fear that the privileges you have enjoyed so far will be denied to your younger siblings or your children. Right? The protests are motivated by self-interest and you cleverly equate it with national interest. Don't you?

(2)You also know very well that your competency and performance is not affected by sitting next to a dull student in your school or college. If you have a good teacher and you pay attention, you will do well. Sports analogy people give is not applicable to class room performance. It is a convenience argument. Isn't it? Check Christian Medical College admissions website. They take 7 students from open quota, 53 seats are reserved for various categories for MBBS. 88% seats are reserved. Yet CMC remains a premier medical college in the nation and produces fine medical graduates. 88% reservation is not hurting CMC, why would 49% reservation hurt the standards of IITs?

(3)You know the main problem with IITs is not reservations. The problem is pathetically low number of seats (4000), for which more than 2 lakh of the brightest students compete each year. Only 2% get in. That is completely unfair? Don't you think it is unfair that a student scoring a position just outside the top 2 percentile (ranked 4001) is denied admission? That is why Prime Minister said he would increase the number of seats in IITs, and make sure that all sections have access to good education. Is that not an enlightened path to Equality?

(3)If you live in parliamentary democracy, you have to learn to respect the decisions of parliament, which has members elected by you and your fellow citizens. If you think the parliament is acting unconstitutionally, you can appeal to supreme court. You have the right to disagree, and the right to protest. But you do not help your cause of national unity by protesting against reservation. Through this protests, you are telling the OBC's that you do not belong to "your ideal India". You say to them: Go away, You are not meritorious enough to join our top institutions. Your presence will bring down the standards and diminish India's glory. Isn't that a mean and divisive message you will be giving on June 4th at Indira Park?

Write to me (govindarb@yahoo.com) if you think I am off the mark.

Good luck with your efforts to bring Equality

-Govinda

The people who are proreservationist are only being greedy & they are looking for short term gains. They want same fruit without making much effort for it.
They always talk about previliges that upper caste was having, but I really don't understand what previliges they are talking about.
There was no reservation for any upper caste in our country. Whosoever has competed till now is by their own hard work. There are crores of upper caste people who dreamt for IIT, IIM but they couldnot qualify and equal number of OBCs qualified there because they worked hard. Merit is not property of any caste.Any child can fulfill his dream (Jafar and Dhoni, never asked for reservation in national cricket team, though they are from really poor family)if he/she is ready to work hard for it.
Yes, it is actually in national interest that all the reservations should be scraped off & more employment opportunities should be created after class 10th. There is no point in accumulating jobless IITians just as jobless graduates.
How can politicians be respected for illogical decisions. Do you respect Laloo Yadav, who has given birth to 9 or 10 children, who promoted kidnappings & murders in Bihar in his regime. This is just an example. Most of the politicians have criminal background. They all have properties more than their earning. These people are not respectable at all & instead of doing caste based division in one country, they should divide country in two, just like India & Pakistan.
On what basis, Yadavas & Kurmis are backward in Bihar, which are most powerful & most affluent class?
Why after being privileged for around 60 years, SC/ST are still backward?
